about us
from the owner
dogs of the dunes was founded in 2019 out of a desire to do dog training differently—and better.
I started this business after seeing too many dogs set up to fail by approaches that relied on force, fear, or unrealistic expectations. I watched inexperienced trainers struggle to support dogs who hadn’t been given the right tools, and I knew there had to be a more humane, effective way forward. Dogs depend on us for guidance, patience, and understanding—and they deserve training that reflects that responsibility.
dogs of the dunes was created to offer a different experience—not just for my own dogs, but for dogs and families throughout our community.
My name is Theresa Armstrong, and I’ve been a Certified Professional Dog Trainer – Knowledge Assessed (CPDT-KA) since 2019. My work centers on an emotionally intelligent, practical approach to life with dogs, keeping LIFE (Least Inhibitive, Functionally Effective) principles at the forefront of everything we do.
We’re a small, dedicated team committed to thoughtful care, clear communication, and training that supports the whole dog—not just obedience on paper.

For years, I watched owners struggle—not because they lacked love, but because they lacked support. Dogs aren’t born understanding our world; they learn it step by step. My goal has always been to create an environment where owners feel empowered, confident, and fully prepared to help their dogs thrive.
As dogs of the dunes grew, I realized that trust is just as important as teaching skills. Every dog who comes into our care has a story, and our job is to understand that story before trying to write the next chapter. This is why we focus so heavily on individualized training plans that respect each dog’s history, personality, and pace.
Over time, we’ve built a community of dog lovers who share the same vision: training that is peaceful, compassionate, and rooted in real understanding. When dogs feel safe, they learn faster. When owners feel heard, they stay committed. That combination creates results that last a lifetime.
Dogs deserve the best training we can give them. That’s why dogs of the dunes’ dual mission goes hand-in-hand: treating dogs humanely while delivering training that truly works. If we want dogs to apply skills at home and in the real world, we must meet them where they are—rather than punishing them for not being perfect.
Sincerely,
Theresa Armstrong, CPDT-KA

Why We Do It
We know how deeply dogs are woven into your life—and how much the time you share with them matters. Our goal is to help your dog’s true self thrive while fostering effective communication, confidence, and understanding of the world around them.
Learning is always happening, and training doesn’t need to feel overwhelming or intimidating. And when you’re away, your dog’s care should never leave you wondering how they’re doing. Thoughtful support—for both dogs and humans—creates calmer homes, stronger relationships, and lasting success.
