dogs of the dunes provides science-based, fear-free dog training in Northwest Indiana, supporting puppies and dogs (8 weeks and older) through every stage of life. Our training focuses on communication, confidence, and real-life skills—helping dogs and their people build sustainable behavior without force, fear, or unrealistic expectations.
We work with foundation behaviors, basic manners, reactivity, life transitions, AKC certification, therapy tasking foundations, 4-H prep, and special event training (including photoshoots and weddings). All training is rooted in positive reinforcement and modern learning science, with an emphasis on emotional well-being and functional success.

We offer three flexible training options to meet different needs, schedules, and learning styles:
one-on-one dog training
Private, personalized coaching tailored to your dog, your goals, and your environment. Ideal for puppies, newly adopted dogs, and behavior concerns that benefit from individualized support.
group dog training classes
Small, structured group classes designed to help dogs practice skills in real-world settings. Options include mixed-age classes, AKC courses, foster-focused programs, and other custom offerings.
board + train programs
Customized, home-based Board & Train programs where training is thoughtfully integrated into daily routines, enrichment, and rest. Each program includes transition support to help skills transfer back home.
how our training works
Every training plan begins with listening—to both you and your dog. Your trainer will assess behavior, discuss goals, and create a plan that fits your lifestyle, budget, and priorities.
Sessions focus on:
- Skill-building through positive reinforcement
- Confidence and emotional regulation

- Clear communication between dog and handler
After each session, you’ll receive session summaries, homework, and actionable guidance, along with ongoing communication and support.
when will i see results?
Many clients notice improvement within the first two to three sessions, though every dog progresses at their own pace. Training outcomes depend on consistency, environment, and the dog’s individual history.
We do not guarantee timelines or results—but we do provide ethical, effective training that supports long-term success.
